A Change In The Air

Inspired by someone to try the Green Card lottery, I signed up last year and won! It has been an exciting few months as I readied my documents, went to the interview, and after a bout of nervous excitement, got through.

The day at the border filling out paperwork was exhausting, yet thrilling. When I left Canada, my best friend had given me a little Garfield to keep me company on the drive down. And sure enough, Garfie did a little victory dance on my shoulder, in my car overstuffed with everything I owned, as we drove away as new permanent residents!

Why would I choose to leave Canada when I loved so much about it? This is hard to explain. There is something about the energy of California that has always drawn me. Something about the weather, the openness of the people, and the spiritual connection felt beneath it all in so many cities that has always beckoned me.

Soon came the hardest decision. Where to live?

I had worked in the Bay Area seven years ago and loved it. But this time around I wanted something more quiet, connected, and closer to nature. I decided to give Ojai a try.
